Anne Papillon d’Alton is 16 when she discovers the arts of Asia, on the occasion of a visit, somewhat fortuitous, the Guimet Museum in Paris. It’s a revelation. Especially Japan, which will never cease to fascinate her.


A few years later, graduated from the Ecole du Louvre in Arts of China and Japan, and the Sorbonne in Art History, having studied Chinese and Japanese, she met in 1987, Jean-Claude Moreau -Gobard, one of the great experts in Asian arts, with whom she worked until 2004. In 1987, she also met Pierre Ansas, with whom, in 2005, a close collaboration for expertise Asian arts.

Since then, although an expert in the arts of Asia in general, where India, the Himalayas and Southeast Asia, as well as China, Korea and Japan, share a common more and more to specialize in the arts of Japan, and joined, in 2010, the European Chamber of Art Experts, as a specialist in this field.

The activity

Anne PAPILLON D’ALTON works mainly with public auction houses, more than twenty in Paris and about fifty in the province, where she travels regularly for days of expertise and sales.

She and her partner, Pierre ANSAS, assist the auctioneers in identifying, authenticating and estimating works of art. They write the sales catalogs and present the objects at the time of sales.

The auctions of Asian art objects in general, and Japan in particular, take place a little throughout the year, with however the two strengths that are the Asian weeks of June and December in Paris.

During these periods, many Parisian auction houses organize complete art sales in Asia, where China and Japan occupy a prominent place. Asian art galleries are also joining the movement, organizing special exhibitions in parallel.

This concentration of events thus attracts many foreign buyers.

In addition to sales houses, the expert also works with individuals, receiving them at his office or moving home for expertise in public sale, insurance or estate inventory.
